A Year in Review: Antigua Edition 2025
Antigua’s yearly calendar is always rich with events that celebrate the island’s culture, vibrancy and community spirit, 2025 was yet another fantastic example of this. From world-class sailing events to colourful carnivals and unforgettable culinary festivals, let’s take a moment to look back at some of the standout highlights that made the year so memorable.
RORC Nelson’s Cup Series:
In February, the RORC launched the Nelson’s Cup Series, a dynamic programme featuring two days of inshore racing, the round the Island ‘Antigua 360’ and its flagship event; the RORC Caribbean 600. In total, the series offered six races, spanning from short inshore challenges to the iconic offshore marathon. Teams could choose to compete in the full series or select individual races, with daily prize-giving’s held at the Antigua Yacht Club to celebrate each day’s achievements.

Antigua Sailing Week: In April, the 2025 edition of Antigua Sailing Week was a resounding success. The highlight of the sailing calendar, the event attracted world-class yachting sports people and sailing enthusiasts from all over the world into English and Falmouth Harbours, all eager to participate or watch one of the most prestigious racing events. Nelsons Dockyard, the host of many evening events, is a world heritage site and was just the place to enjoy some hospitality, suck up the ambiance and rub shoulders with so many talented sailors.
Antigua and Barbuda Restaurant Week:
May saw a whole host of celebrity chefs and beverage professionals exclusively of Caribbean heritage participated in the third annual Restaurant Week to kick-start the twin island’s culinary month. During the celebration, visitors enjoyed a variety of special dining experiences and events, designed to showcase diverse and scrumptious food. The impressive line-up of chefs included Maurine Bowers, Claude Lewis, Devan Rajkumar and Kareem Roberts.

May combined delicious cuisine with stunning art and refreshing beverages, creating an immersive cultural experience.
Run in Paradise:
Also in May, runners from around the globe joined forces in St John’s to immerse themselves in the glorious beaches, diverse neighbourhoods, breath-taking green landscape and electric atmosphere of the area whilst participating in the annual Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K or 5K race. What a wonderful way to take in some of Antigua’s most iconic views whilst surrounded with fellow inspirational runners.
Antigua Carnival:
July marked the annual return of one of the Caribbean's greatest summer festivals. The event is an annual highlight for locals and tourists alike. The celebrations truly encompass the vibrancy and diversity of Antiguan culture. From live music to street parties, there was something for everyone to enjoy. The historical event celebrates the emancipation from slavery. St John’s was filled with colourful costumes, traditional entertainment, food stalls and beautifully dressed floats.

Independence Celebrations: Spanning ten days of patriotic celebration, the 44th Independence schedule of events were filled with cultural pride and community spirit. Returning favourites included the National Youth Rally, the Festival of Choirs and the much-anticipated comeback of the Independence Calypso Competition. The National Youth Theatre marked its twentieth anniversary with a special theatrical production titled Wadadli Root
.
Highlights from this year included:
Unchartered Waters
, a production presented by Team Antigua -Island Girls, along with the Burning Flames Highway “Traffic Jam,” which launched the Potters Village Highway in honour of the legendary Burning Flames Band as they celebrated forty years of musical excellence.

Antigua & Barbuda Art Week:
In November, the island showed off its artistic soul through this much-loved annual event. To celebrate the blossoming art scene across the twin nation, vibrant visual art, live music performances, spoken word performances, dance displays and fashion shows were showcased. Visitors participated in painting sessions, art talks, tours and workshops, all led by local artists.
