Crafting Your Island Home Oasis: Insights from Stephanie Tyler, President of Studio IDC

Staying Ahead of Design Trends in the Caribbean

With over a century of collective experience, Studio IDC is a leading authority in enhancing the essence of home and delivering innovative design solutions. Now extending their services to homeowners at Pearns Point, they collaborate closely with clients throughout every construction phase.

Recognizing homes as both venues of celebration and retreats, and as opportunities to narrate a story, Studio IDC tailors their approach to each client they serve.

Stephanie Tyler, President of Studio IDC, acknowledges the ever-evolving nature of trends – whether in technology, style, or the demand for sustainability.

Reflecting on shifts in taste over the past five years, Stephanie notes: “Fifteen years ago in Antigua, the style leaned toward colonial aesthetics with dark mahogany woods and vibrant fabrics. Now, there’s a preference for modern, clean lines, lighter woods, and a minimalist approach.  However, personal taste and aesthetics vary and we like to capture the innate beauty of a project’s architecture, location and inspiration while honoring our client’s individuality.”

She continues, “Technology preferences vary; some clients seek simplicity, while others crave the latest gadgets and remote home control via iPad. Regardless, there’s a growing desire for discreet or concealed appliances, like hiding large TV screens in cabinets or separate rooms.”

Stephanie emphasizes the rising importance of indoor and outdoor lighting to create various atmospheres. Studio IDC’s lighting consultant ensures their clients’ homes exude an exceptional ambiance that is layered, multi-functional, and easy.

Regarding sustainability, particularly in Pearns Point’s natural setting, Stephanie highlights Studio IDC’s initiatives: “From door sensors that deactivate AC when residents leave to electric master switches and water retention systems, we prioritize eco-conscious practices. Utilizing reclaimed teak woods and responsibly sourced materials aligns with our commitment to sustainability.”

Lastly, Stephanie shares a unique request: “We recently received a quirky design request for a living room planetarium! It’s been an exciting challenge,” she adds with a laugh.
